canada’s next top model…the real runway reality

We watch them feud; we pick them apart; we watch them fall apart; we watch them get back up, but do we ever really know their stories…how they got into our television screens as they tough it out in the biz for all to see??
This is the Sisi you may remember…

Here is the Sisi you have not yet met…

No, she didn’t just appear out of thin air and on to your television screen, SiSi Wang, aka sisi, the third place winner of the very first Canada’s Next Top Model, has been through the same trials and tribulations of every other model breaking into the biz, and every other ordinary girl, for that matter.
The story begins back when SiSi moved to Canada from China at the age of fourteen. As many other models, she began her career two years later, at the age of sixteen, with a local Vancouver modelling agent by the name of Liz Bell. Taking a break from studies, after highschool she packed her bags and headed straight to where it all happens; New York City, and of course, Milan. She stayed abroad for about a year booking international gigs with the likes of Clairol and KMS Hair, and graced the pages of Mademoiselle, and Italian Donna. While in New York, she made the decision to go back home to Vancouver and continue her studies at Simon Fraser University….only two weeks before THE September 11th. She is now majoring in the field of Communications.
Okay…okay…I know you all want some dirt on the actual show…here’s a little something to hold you over…
During my interview with Sisi, I made a point to ask her if the model feud’s on the show are real or somewhat staged for more ratings….

Plain and simple, people, the fights are real. If you happen to remember noticing any tension between Sisi and Brandi, you weren’t just imagining things. The two rivals still don’t speak to each other when they happen to be at the same casting at the same time. Sisi admits to pretending that she doesn’t even know Brandi, and avoids eye contact at all times, and vice versa. However, Sisi and Tenika still remain close friends since the taping of the show.
I have always been anti-TOP MODEL…so I was anxious to find out from Sisi whether she felt that the show was a good way to break into the biz, and how it has helped her career.
Upon being asked those questions Sisi commented, “I began modelling a long time before the show happened, so I didn’t use it to break into the industry. I am very grateful for being selected and taking third place, but I always knew I could be a model,” and then very modestly added, “I’ve had many interesting jobs since the show, and the show did give all of us lots of exposure. It has helped people recognize me on the runway…but I still have to be a good model to book the jobs.”
As for the winner, Andrea, who most people I talk to don’t even remember…what did Sisi have to say about her whereabouts…”I don’t know…”
Letting my curiousity get the better of me, I did some digging. The Andrea, Canada’s Next Top Model first season winner is finishing the work involved with her one year $100,000 contract with Proctor & Gamble….after that, she hopes to ditch the industry and live happily ever after as a dental hygenist. Sounds pretty glamourous to me(????)
Reality television is nothing but reality television, and will always be just that, modelling contract or no modelling contract; and let’s face it, one can dream forever and a day about living the life of a model, but most don’t know what that actually entails, and once they do, they just aren’t cut out for the lonely nights and long days.
What does the future hold for this reality media model?? The question that I ask all models…Any interesting travelling prospects coming up?? Her reply, “Right now I’m only travelling between Toronto and Vancouver. I don’t really care to travel to other cities since I have worked in Milan, New York, and Paris already. I didn’t like travelling back then and I know I won’t like it now.” So, it looks like its local for Sisi…we may start seeing this Canadian beauty’s face around more often.
What advice does Sisi offer to her young fans thinking about getting into the industry….”MAKE SURE YOU CAN TAKE THE CRITICISM!!!!!”
As for the second season of Canada’s version of top model, here’s what SiSi has to say about it, “I loved Trisha; she was kind, sincere, and real, but I think that Jay will bring alot of excitement to the second season.”
…and that’s a wrap
