I was recently asked to describe Canadian fashion during an interview when I found myself stumbling over words; lost for words. Being a so-called “fashion journalist”…self-proclaimed fashion junkie…this should be a response that slips easily off of the tongue. But, then I realized…my lack of response…was actually a natural, and very likely, adequate response. As Canadians, we have so much freedom of expression…and live in a country filled with such an immense drive of artistic integrity…and talent.
So…I choose to remain response-less…and proclaim that Canadian fashion is what you see, are immersed with, when you casually stroll down Queen Street…its made up of our sense of individuality…our unique sense of being. It’s not about a label, or a high profile fashion show filled with pretty little things and big-named celebrities with even bigger pocket books. It is simply who we are.
